What We Do
Based on beautiful Quadra Island, our boats fish the rugged coast of Northern Vancouver Island, West Coast Vancouver Island, and the mainland inlets. We catch our crab, prawns, and shrimp, in the cold, deep, tidal waters of one of the most pristine marine ecosystems on the planet.
We use traps to harvest our catch, which is the most sustainable, environmentally friendly method for bringing in our premium shellfish. Trap fishing minimizes by-catch and allows any non target species to be sent back to the sea unharmed.
Every single day, our boats come to port to unload live prawns and crab. Our crab go straight onto our trucks into live tank systems, where they are distributed all over Western Canada, directly to the consumer.
Our prawns come off of the boats, are loaded onto large refrigerated trucks with live tank systems. The trucks then head to French Creek Seafoods for processing. Our prawns go from live to frozen in minutes, ensuring that they are of the highest quality!

In our eyes, sustainability means keeping our product local. Because our seafood is of such high quality, traditionally it has been sold into the global markets for many years for use in sushi and high end restaurants.
We believe that Canadians deserve to have access to this quality food source that is harvested in their own backyards. We strive to bring our catch to our customers at or below retail prices, because affordability also means sustainability.
We also believe in "Traceability" or knowing where your food comes from! When you purchase from Quadra Island Fisheries, you get to meet the fisherman who caught your food in most cases. Any products that we carry that are not caught by us, are sourced locally, and are wild, sustainably harvested, BC products produced by other small family owned and operated businesses. We know where our seafood comes from and who produced it, so should you!
Our trucks are our mobile seafood markets! We are now servicing most communities in BC, major city centres in Alberta, and the Yukon!
